Head of Software Development / Architect

About the Role
We are seeking a structured and visionary Head of Software Development to lead and scale our engineering team across multiple products and platforms. You will drive the development and evolution of scalable, secure, and modular software solutions while actively shaping architectural decisions and implementation strategies.
Our ecosystem spans on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure, mobile apps, booking portals, Track & Trace solutions, internal web applications, and custom-built tools for order handling, route planning, and real-time optimization. We also manage smart locker systems, modernize logistics workflows, and build everything that empowers the first- and last-mile delivery chain.
A key focus of this role is establishing standardization, enforcing architectural structure, and designing modular, reusable components that promote speed, quality, and scalability across all projects.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the software development team
- Define and enforce coding standards, architectural best practices, and DevOps processes
- Drive the delivery of enterprise-grade solutions across multiple platforms
- Collaborate with product, design, and leadership to align technical direction with business goals
- Conduct architectural reviews, code reviews, and ongoing technology evaluations
- Own sprint planning, resource allocation, and development timelines
- Continuously improve performance, security, scalability, and CI/CD pipelines
- Apprenticeship Management: Actively guide and support apprentices through structured development and mentoring
- Group Synergy: Align the tech stack and best practices across teams and departments, ensuring interoperability, maintainability, and strategic cohesion

Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software development experience
- Proven experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Deep architectural understanding of microservices, APIs, and cloud/on-prem hybrid systems
- Proficiency in both backend and frontend technologies
- Experience with DevOps, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong problem-solving skills, and a pragmatic, hands-on mindset
- Fluency in German and English
