The main tasks on the scientific computing cluster are related to genome-wide proteomics, human genome next generation sequencing, large-scale statistical modeling, and AI.

We are looking for a Senior HPC Systems Engineer experienced in deploying and configuring complex open source packages, and in managing cluster schedulers. A solid background in Linux, scripting and parallel file systems is mandatory.

Senior HPC Systems Engineer (m/f/d)

Fulltime, 40 hours per week, Vienna

Your role

  • Deploy and maintains the Scientific Computing's computational and data science ecosystem with GPUs, high bandwidth, low latency interconnects, large memory nodes, scientific workflows, and 2.5 petabytes of storage in a production environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues including systems, hardware, application software, and networking.
  • Design, develop, implement system administration tasks, including hardware and software configuration, configuration management, networking and metrics.
  • Actively monitor the systems.
  • Answer and resolve user tickets.

Environment

  • Dell nodes: Ice Lake and Sapphire Rapids CPUs: totaling approximately 1,000 cores with 48 TB RAM
  • EDR Infiniband interconnects
  • Lustre: 2 Fileservers 2 Metadata Server 2.5 PB net capacity
  • GPUs: three nodes with one NVIDIA L4: 24GB GPU memory, four nodes with two NVIDIA H100 PCIe: 94GB GPU memory each, and one node with NVIDIA HGX(tm) H100: four GPUs each with 80GB GPU memory

Your profile

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or another scientific field. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • 4+ years (higher preferred) of HPC (High Performance Computing) system administration and operations.
  • Solid foundation in Linux system administration and scripting (e.g., bash, python).
  • Experienced with a job scheduler such as Slurm
  • Experienced with parallel file systems and storage. Lustre is preferred
  • Experience with configuration management and orchestration software. BCM is preferred
  • Experience with reproducible software installations is preferred
  • Experience with Infiniband is preferred.
  • Experience with GPUs is preferred.
  • Experience with containers is preferred.
  • Experience with version control such as git is preferred.
  • Expert troubleshooter.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Team player and customer focused.
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical ability.

  • This role is based in Vienna, Austria. You will be required to relocate if you are based elsewhere, and you will receive a generous relocation allowance to support you.

Salary

The actual minimum salary is 4,500 EUR gross per month (on a 40-hour basis), the actual salary depends on your qualifications and experience. The salary is paid 14 times per year.

Overtime

Any accrued overtime is compensated in the form of time off.
