Data Scientist (m/f/d)
At Drei, Data Science is not only about building models -- it is about turning large-scale data into real business impact.
As part of our Big Data Team, you will work on complex analytical and machine-learning use cases in a highly data-driven telco environment. You will help us move from traditional Big Data and DWH landscapes towards a modern, cloud-enabled Data & AI platform based on Databricks on Azure.
This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, working hands-on with data and models, and helping shape how Data Science is done on a modern enterprise platform. You will contribute to use cases such as customer analytics, churn and prediction models, network and geospatial analytics, anomaly detection, AI-supported decisioning, and new ML/AI opportunities across the organization.
You will join at an exciting point in our journey: our new unified analytics platform is moving from evaluation and setup into implementation and production-readiness. That means you will not only use the platform -- you can actively influence how Data Science, ML and AI use cases are built, deployed and scaled at Drei.
Was du bei uns machst:
- Develop and improve machine-learning and statistical models for real business challenges, including classification, forecasting, anomaly detection, clustering, predictive analytics and optimization.
- Work with large, complex, structured and unstructured datasets from different source systems.
- Support the development of end-to-end ML and AI use cases -- from data exploration and feature engineering to model training, validation, deployment and monitoring.
- Bring a Data Science perspective into our Databricks implementation and help establish scalable ways of working for ML and AI on a modern cloud data platform.
- Collaborate closely with Data Engineers, DWH Developers, BI Developers, Architects, Product Owners, Operation Teams and business departments.
- Translate complex analytical results into clear recommendations, visualizations and business-relevant insights.
- Help identify new ML, AI and GenAI use cases and evaluate where modern tools can reduce time-to-market.
- Contribute to best practices around MLOps, model lifecycle management, reproducibility, governance and responsible AI.
- Work in an agile team that values ownership, curiosity, pragmatic problem solving and continuous learning.
Das bringst du mit:
- Several years of practical experience in Data Science, Machine Learning or Applied Statistics.
- Strong Python and SQL skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Solid knowledge of statistical modelling and machine-learning methods, e.g. regression, classification, clustering, gradient boosting, random forests, XGBoost, time-series modelling or anomaly detection.
- Experience with the full Data Science lifecycle: exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model training, hyperparameter tuning, validation, interpretation and communication of results.
- Experience deploying or operationalizing ML models, ideally in production or near-production environments.
- Familiarity with PySpark, Spark-based processing or Big Data environments.
- Interest in modern cloud-native Data & AI platforms -- ideally Azure Databricks, Delta Lake, MLflow, Unity Catalog, Terraform or comparable technologies.
- Interest or experience in GenAI, LLMs, AI Agents, NLP, embeddings, RAG patterns or AI-assisted development.
- Ability to explain complex analytical and technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A structured, independent and solution-oriented working style.
- Strong team spirit and openness to working in an agile setup.
- Excellent English skills; German is an advantage.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Databricks, Azure, MLflow, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog or cloud-native MLOps.
- Experience with geospatial analytics, location data, coordinates, grids or network-related analytics.
- Experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Knowledge of responsible AI, data governance, model monitoring or AI compliance topics.
- Experience with visualization and storytelling tools such as Power BI, Tableau or similar.
- Experience in telecommunications, customer analytics, network analytics or large-scale enterprise data environments.
Why this role is exciting:
- Work on complex and meaningful use cases: You will work with large-scale telco data and analytical challenges that go beyond standard reporting.
- Shape a new Data & AI platform: Drei is introducing a modern Databricks-based analytics platform, creating new possibilities for Data Science, ML and AI.
- Create visible impact: Your work can influence business decisions, customer experience, network insights and the future of data-driven work at Drei.
- Move models closer to production: You will help us bridge the gap between experimentation and scalable, governed implementation.
- Use modern tools: You will work with cloud-native technologies, Big Data tooling, MLOps concepts and emerging AI capabilities.
- Collaborate across domains: You will work together with experts from Big Data, DWH, BI, architecture, IT security, governance and business departments.
- Keep learning: The role offers room to grow into new technologies, platform capabilities and AI use cases.
