AVL is the world's largest independent company for development of powertrains (combustion engines, hybrid systems, electric drive) as well as simulation and test systems for passenger cars, trucks and marine engines.
We offer a master thesis:
To protect connected vehicles, various cryptographic algorithms and modules (e.g. symmetric and asymmetric, key-exchange, digital signature, hash functions etc.) need to be carefully architected to provide various cryptographic functions according to the threat model and application scenarios. At the same time, cryptographic modules, keys and certificates must be updatable to keep pace with the constant changing threat landscape.
The objective is to research, design and develop automotive cryptographic systems and a key management concept and solution beyond the state of the art. The work needs to show how to mitigate automotive specific threats within the constraints in the context of software over-the-air update (SOTA). The focus is to apply state-of-the-art cryptographic standards, software and hardware to secure connected vehicle applications. The proof-of-concept implementation will be based on existing cryptographic libraries and integrated into an existing in-vehicle secure gateway
Remuneration: The successful completion of the thesis is remunerated with a one-time fee of EUR 2,500 before tax.
According to the Austrian Employment of Foreign Nationals Act it is unfortunately not possible to assign graduate work to third-country citizens (Non-EU citizens) who study at a university abroad.
